------------------------------------------------------------ 2. Main Article ------------------------------------------------------------ Free ways to Promote your website. If you own a website your first mission will be to be found in the major search engines (such as Google and MSN Search) as well as the top directories (like Yahoo and the Open Directory Project). The last issue dealt with free ways to submit your site to the major index sites so I will not spend much more time on that before moving on to the next traffic generating methods. But I will briefly mention some of the free web site submission services that exist. They include: submitexpress.com, addpro.com, ez2www.com and quickregister.net. To find more (and there are numerous others), simply type in 'free submission services" or "free add url services" on your favorite search engine. I recommend Google or search.msn.com.

Once you have your site submitted to these engines you can expect a wait of weeks or more for most of them to list you in their search results. In the meantime, you will want to explore some of the free avenues of traffic generation and site promotion that exist on the internet. The first one is simple: make sure you have your website in your 'email signature file' so it is automatically at the bottom of each e-mail you send out. This is an accepted way to promote your site and has nothing to do with spam.

You may also want to post your site to a free for all links submitter. FFA's do not send many hits any more but they are still useful in terms of increasing the link popularity of your website, which is an important factor in determining "page rank" in the search engine algorithm. In plain English, the more websites point to yours, the more 'popular' it appears to search engines and the higher your site will come up in search results for it's main keywords. FFA sites help by linking to your site. A good free FFA is www.ffa.net which has over 100,000 ffa's in it's database that you can submit to with one form. Just use a throwaway e-mail account like a hotmail account because that address will be hit with plenty of spam, which is the one catch of this service. Again, do not use your main e-mail for this service.

You can also post to the Newsgroups for free. The easiest way to sign up for a free account is to go to Google and hit the groups link. Then sign up. Browse the newsgroups first to find the best ones and "lurk" there for a while before posting. It is usually only proper to post your URL in the signature or by-line at the bottom of your post. Only post to one group at a time so you do not get flamed.

Probably the most effective method of free site promotion these days is article submission. JUst put together an article in your specialty and post it to the major article archives and content providers on the web. The way it works is other websites and ezines get to use your article for content, if it pertains to their subject matter. In return they must post your "resource box" at the end of the article which links to your website and phone number/e-mail.

This not only generates free web traffic to your site but also increases the all-important link popularity of your site in the eyes of the search engines. A few good places to start in your article submission campaign include www.ezinearticles.com, articlecity.com, goarticles.com, ideamarketers.com, bpubs.com, freesticky.com, list-news.com and expertarticles.com. To find more just search on your favorite engine for 'free content providers and 'free article submissions', etc. --------------- For More information about free promotion resources you can go to: http://www.aaronsfreebies.com/freepromotion.html ------------------------------------------------------------ 10.
